Chevy teases the tail of its new Malibu.(Credit:GM)Punctuating its move toward globalcars, Chevy will unveil the next-generation Malibu simultaneously at the Shanghai auto show and on the marque's Facebook page. The auto show unveil will be shown live on Facebook at 5:30 p.m. PT on April 18.Prior to the unveil, Chevy released a teaser photo showing a set of LED taillights and the rear fender of the car. The square design of the taillights reveals a retro look, similar to the square gauges in the new Chevy Camaro. The only other clues Chevy offers about the new Malibu is that it will be powered by "global family of fuel-efficient and powerful four-cylinder engines, along with six-speed transmissions." For U.S. models, we would expect direct injection and possibly turbochargers, but a diesel version would be unlikely. The Malibu should also benefit from the latest versions of OnStar, which allows integration with smartphone apps, and an updated navigation system.Chevy boasts that the Malibu was GM's best-selling car in the U.S. in 2010. Chevy's moves into emerging markets and its expansion in Europe led to 4.26 million global sales in 2010.In the U.S., we will get our first chance to see the new Malibu live at the 2011 New York auto show.

0 Vote(s)

It looks like Facebook is about to announce its relocation to Menlo Park, Calif. That Bay Area suburb has long languished in the shadow of Palo Alto, its neighbor to the south, which has lately attracted more than its fair share of startups. The company is sending out invites to a press conference on Feb. 8 at Menlo Park City Hall. Given last montha4a4s reports that Facebook had purchased 22 acres of business property near the old Sun Microsystems campus (in, yes, Menlo Park), ita4a4s not hard to guess what the company will be talking about. And when Cneta4a4s Caroline McCarthy asked about the move, Facebook told her: a4AThe press event on Tuesday at Menlo Park City Hall is regarding a campus that will fit our long-term business needs. We&'ll be sharing more information at that time.a4 (A Facebook spokesperson just sent me the same statement.) That isna4a4t quite the same as saying, a4AYes, wea4a4re moving to the property that everyone was speculating about,a4 but ita4a4s pretty close.Facebook has offices around the world, but its core teams remain in Palo Alto. The company moved to its current headquarters in 2009, then itadded another Palo Alto office last year. As Facebook continues to expand, it&'s probably outgrowing those offices. In a related move, VentureBeat reported in December that Facebook was close to landing new space on Madison Avenue in New York City, the iconic home of the advertising industry which it is increasingly trying to court. A source in the commercial real-estate industry told us that Facebook has signed a lease on a large office building where it will be able to house hundreds of employees. In terms of location, the new Menlo Park campus shouldn&'t be a huge shift for employees who drive or take the company shuttle from San Francisco to work, since it&'s about five miles from Facebooka4a4s current headquarters. For those used to walking or biking &8212' the company once gave employees who lived in walking distance of headquarters a monthly rent voucher &8212' it&'s more of a switch. The big question, though, is whether the company can retain its startup culture as it relocates and grows.Previous Story: Is your avatar hot or not Blue Mars iPhone app will let others votePrintEmailTwitterFacebookGoogle BuzzLinkedIn DiggStumbleUponRedditDeliciousGoogleMore&8230' Tags: Menlo ParkCompanies: Facebook Tags: Menlo ParkCompanies: FacebookAnthony is a senior editor at VentureBeat, as well as its reporter on media, advertising, and social networks.
