LG booth setup reveals new phones(Credit:CNET)LAS VEGAS--We managed to get a sneak peek at the booth that LG is setting up in preparation for CES here at the Las Vegas Convention Center, and it looks like the company will be unveiling at least two new phones here in the next couple of days. One of them looks to be the LG Revolution, and it seems it's headed to a 4G network, most likely Verizon's LTE. It looks very similar to the LG Optimus 2X, which will also be at the booth. Another phone that caught our eye is the Optimus Black, which we don't know too much about aside from its supposed thinness and display clarity. LG definitely has plenty to parade around here at CES, and we're looking forward to it.Here are a few more photos we managed to grab from the LG booth as they were setting up:LG Revolution sneak peek(Credit:Kent German/CNET)LG Revolution sneak peek(Credit:Kent German/CNET)

0 Vote(s)

(Credit:Apple)Apple'siPhone is one of the most sought-after devices on the market, and according to a new survey, it also has the highest customer satisfaction rating among smartphone buyers. The survey, conducted by market research firm ChangeWave, asked 1,212 consumers who had purchased a smartphone in the last six months how satisfied they were with their purchase.Apple's iPhone topped the list of customers who said the were very satisfied, with a 77 percent approval rating. Motorola came in second with 71 percent, followed by HTC (63 percent), Samsung (45 percent), and RIM (44 percent). All four models of iPhones surveyed received high marks. In fact, even the lowest-scoring iPhone model had higher customer approval ratings than the highest-rated phones from competing manufacturers. The iPhone 4 (32GB) had an satisfaction rating of 84 percent, while the iPhone 4 (16GB) came in at 78 percent. The iPhone 3GS (32GB) was the second highest rated iPhone with 81 percent satisfaction, followed by the iPhone 3GS (16GB) with 77 percent.Just as interesting were the low satisfaction ratings among consumers for a few of RIM's recent releases. The highest rated BlackBerry, the Torch, had a "very satisfied" rating of 64 percent. Other RIM phones didn't fare as well. The BlackBerry Bold garnered a 48 percent satisfaction rating, followed by the Curve at 40 percent.(Credit:ChangeWave)Of course, the iPhone is only available from AT&T in the U.S., and ChangeWave wanted to see how hardware choices might be affected by what carrier people are on. What if the iPhone was available from other carriers Would that affect the decisions people make about what smartphone they buy According to the survey it would--at least for some.ChangeWave asked non-AT&T customers whether they would still buy their current smartphone if the iPhone had been a choice on their current carrier. Overall, 46 percent said they would keep their current phones, while 34 percent said they would have bought an iPhone if it were available.Getting a bit more specific, HTC customers were least likely to give up their current smartphone for an iPhone, with 54 percent of HTC customers saying they would keep their current model. Fifty percent of Samsung users said they'd keep their current phone. Things got a bit closer with the BlackBerry. Overall, 45 percent of BlackBerry buyers would have kept their devices. Motorola fared the worst among respondents. Thirty-nine percent would have kept their Motorola devices, but 37 percent would have chosen an iPhone instead.ChangeWave's findings match those of J.D. Power and Associates released in September, which put Apple on the top of its smartphone satisfaction list.In October, a new report from Strategy Analytics showed that Apple had shipped more smartphones than RIM in the third quarter. According to the report, Apple shipped 15.4 million smartphones compared to RIM's 12.3 million.Perhaps customer satisfaction is affecting sales figures more than some companies would like to admit.

0 Vote(s)

Samsung&39's newest Armani phone is part of the Galaxy S series.(Credit:Women&39's Wear Daily)Samsung and Giorgio Armani are making another go at creating a designer cell phone, reports Women's Wear Daily. Like their original collaboration, the Samsung Armani, the new handset will offer a touch screen and multimedia features, but it will ditch Windows Mobile 6.5, Armani's operating system of choice on last year's Samsung smartphone, in favor of Android. Say goodbye also to the full keyboard and tilting design.Though the new model is part of the Galaxy S series--it's a dead ringer for AT&T's Captivate--we weren't expecting it to be so understated. With the black color and small Armani logo, it lacks some of the gold embellishments found on its predecessors. The feature set, on the other hand, isn't surprising. Inside you'll find the standard Galaxy S offerings including a 5-megapixel camera, a multimedia player, e-mail, a 1Ghz processor, and 16GB of internal memory. And, of course, the 4-inch display is super-AMOLED. We don't know which version of Android it will run, but Eclair (2.1) is the most likely candidate.Starting next month the handset will debut in Giorgio Armani boutiques and other retailers in Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Dubai, China, Hong Kong, Spain, Russia, and the Netherlands. Be warned that it carries a hefty price tag of 700 euros, or about $965. No one ever said fashion came cheap.

0 Vote(s)

It's part of the companies' massive 10-year deal aimed at joining forces in search to better rival market leader Google.(Credit:Yahoo/Microsoft)Although the companies had a goal of doing so by the end of this month, they had said they were willing to push things back so as not to interfere with business in the all-important holiday shopping season."The transition comes after months of testing and collaboration between Yahoo! and Microsoft, with strict attention being paid to protecting the quality of experience for publishers and advertisers during the upcoming holiday season," the companies said.Yahoo made the shift to using Bing for organic (non-paid) search results in August. The companies still plan to move Yahoo's mobile search advertising to Microsoft's engine by the end of October. The international move will take more time, with the complete work not expected to be complete until early 2012. On the organic front, the companies plan to shift Spanish-speaking Latin America in the first quarter of next year. For paid search, the first countries will be the United Kingdom, France, Ireland, and India, which are slated for the second quarter.

0 Vote(s)

Amazon.com is reportedly poised to buy household-goods retailer Quidsi, the parent of Diapers.com, on Monday for $540 million in cash and debt.In so doing, the giant online retailer looks set to fend off its most convincing challenger in years. Buying Diapers.com&'s operator will keep it away from Walmart, which was reportedly interested &8212' arguably worth the price by itself. And Amazon, long a master cost-cutter, may learn something from Quidsi&'s highly automated robotic warehouses.Quidsi, backed by Bessemer Venture Partners, Accel Partners, and New Enterprise Associates, among others, has a loyal following among young parents for Diapers.com&'s baby supplies, and has been expanding into other drugstore-aisle categories with its Soap.com and BeautyBar.com sites.Amazon had launched two recent salvos against Diapers.com: a free-shipping and discount program, Amazon Mom, and more recently an all-out price war in diapers, which some speculated was a tactic to force Quidsi to the negotiating table. The price is 67 percent more than Quidsi&'s most recent financing round in October 2009, which valued the company at $300 million.Quidsi&'s founders, Marc Lore and Vinnie Bharara, will reportedly remain with the company after the buy with long-term contracts. That move, as well as the fierce discounting in the runup to the buy, is reminiscent of Amazon&'s prolonged courtship of Zappos and its charismatic CEO, Tony Hsieh, who still runs the online shoe retailer for Amazon. There&'s just one hitch I see: Will Amazon have to start collecting sales tax in Quidsi&'s home state of New Jersey Already, Quidsi collects sales taxes in several northeastern states where Amazon doesn&'t. Internet and mail-order retailers can&'t be forced by states to collect taxes on most interstate purchases' consumers are supposed to pay the tax themselves, but few do. The absence of sales tax often gives online retailers a price advantage over brick-and-mortar stores. If Amazon integrates Quidsi&'s infrastructure to gain from its operating efficiencies, it may find it hard to avoid collecting taxes in states like New Jersey, where Quidsi is based.Online retailers, including Amazon.com, have long called for a rationalization of sales taxes. Perhaps Amazon&'s betting that it&'s worth more to corner the online-diaper market than to skimp on taxes. It&'s just one more sign that Quidsi has come up with something Amazon can&'t resist paying for.Next Story: &''Data marketplace&'' Infochimps raises $1.2M to build out its data offerings Previous Story: Microsoft&'s Kinect gaming control gets hacked alreadyPrintEmailTwitterFacebookGoogle BuzzLinkedIn DiggStumbleUponRedditDeliciousGoogleMore&8230' Tags: BeautyBar.com, Diapers.com, e commerce, Soap.comCompanies: Amazon.com, QuidsiPeople: Marc Lore, Vinnie Bharara Tags: BeautyBar.com, Diapers.com, e commerce, Soap.comCompanies: Amazon.com, QuidsiPeople: Marc Lore, Vinnie BhararaOwen Thomas is the executive editor of VentureBeat.VentureBeat has new weekly email newsletters.
Given the USD 47.7 billion US consumers alone are expected to spend on their pets this year, it''s not entirely surprising to see the likes of the Sniff Dog Hotel and the many other pet-focused innovations we''ve seen emerge in recent months. Along the lines of Fido Factor, in fact, one more we recently spotted gives consumers a new way to discover the dog-friendly restaurants in their neighborhood.California-based Dining with Dogs is a free site that lets dog owners find restaurants in their area that allow dogs in their outdoor seating areas. Currently focusing on New York, Chicago, California, Arizona and Florida, the ad-supported site lets users submit and review restaurants as well as interact with other dog lovers online. Reviews can also be posted directly to Facebook and other popular social networks.Guides to pet-friendly hotels have been around for some time, but this new focus on restaurants adds a new point of differentiation for restaurateurs worldwide. Eateries around the globe: time to develop a dog-friendly policy, if you don''t already have one. Everyone else: how else can you help guide pet lovers to local establishments that will treat them a4" and their pets a4" right...
