<description><![CDATA[Windows Media Center running on Windows Embedded Compact 7.(Credit:Microsoft)With CES fast-approaching, the rumor mill is at full bore, and one of the latest items to come out of it is that Microsoft will be rolling out a &quot;stripped-down version of Windows&quot; that will run on set-top boxes and upcoming TV sets. The report comes courtesy of The Seattle Times, which says the boxes will cost somewhere in the ballpark of $200, will run the Windows Media Center interface, and will be on the market sometime this year.As The Times points out, the version of Windows that will be running this TV-friendly interface is not a new thing. Microsoft demonstrated Media Center running on Windows Embedded Compact 7 earlier this year, and offered it up as a public technology preview. What is new, is bringing it to commodity hardware for the living room, or built into TVs--both things Google has done with its still nascent Google TV platform. One thing to note here is that Microsoft is also rumored to be unveiling a version of its Windows software that runs on ARM processors while at CES. However, those reports, which cropped up last month from both The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, said that version of Windows would be at least two years out and aimed at bringing a full version of the OS to ARM devices. <description><![CDATA[Adobe warned yesterday that its Flash, Acrobat and Acrobat Reader products all have a critical vulnerability that will allow an attacker to take control of the affected system.The vulnerability is currently being exploited via a Flash file embedded in Microsoft Excel (.xls) file. The file has been distributed as an e-mail attachment.  There are no reports yet on attacks targeting Acrobat software.Users should be very careful with e-mail attachments until a fix has been issued and the software has been updated. Adobe promises that an update will be available on March 21.Acrobat and Acrobat Reader are used to create and read PDF files. Flash and PDF files are very popular among malicious code writers because they are so widely used across different platforms. Almost every computer in the world has Acrobat or Flash installed. A single vulnerability can be exploited in Windows, Mac and other operating systems.The affected versions are Adobe Flash Player 10.2 for Windows, Macintosh, Linux, Solaris and Android systems. Adobe Reader and Acrobat X are affected on Windows and Macintosh only. <description><![CDATA[Google Voice, the search giant&amp;'s very useful Internet-calling application, has just removed one large reason some people hesitate to use it.At least, on Sprint phones.Google and Sprint said they will soon start offering (they didn&amp;'t specify a date) an option to let you use your Sprint mobile phone number as your Google Voice number. In other words, Google Voice no longer requires you to sign up for an extra number in order to use it. There are all kinds of reasons this makes Google Voice a no-brainer to use &amp;8212' if you&amp;'re a Sprint subscriber. To begin with, it will make it easier to save money while making international calls. And it replaces Sprint&amp;'s old-school voicemail with smart voicemail that forwards to your email and transcribes your messages. When it does launch, the feature will be gradually rolled out to customers.As elegant as Google Voice is (I raved about it when it first came out, and still think ita4a4s a must-have application), the one thing I feared might slow its adoption was that the need for an additional number. While not that much of a hassle, it was still enough to make people think twice. To use Google Voice, youa4a4d have to enter the Google Voice online dashboard and choose where to route calls.Starting today, if someone calls your Sprint phone number, you can set up Google Voice to have the call not only ring your Sprint phone, but also up to five other phones, including your home, office or other cell phones. All the existing Google Voice features otherwise remain the same: You can have the number ring different phones based on who is calling, and what time of day they are calling, and so on.In addition, if you already have a Google Voice number, Sprint will let you replace the Sprint number issued with your new phone with your Google Voice number. If you make calls or text from that phone, everything is done through deep native integration with Google Voice. So Google Voice will replace your voicemail features &amp;8212' for example, letting you forward voice messages in the form of emails or texts. You can create custom greetings, and customize it for individual callers or groups of callers.For people who make international calls, they dona4a4t have to switch over to use another cheap phone service. Since the international call is routed through Google Voice, they get the low rates Google Voice offers.
