LG&39's mystery dual screen Android handset(Credit:Pocketlint)A new LG handset with a rather unique form factor has been spied in London this week. The unnamed device features a sliding QWERTY keyboard with a secondary display nestled halfway between the keys. Pocket-lint indicates that theAndroid smart phone was used as part of a demonstration by Orange and Kineto Wireless who were discussing the carrier's Signal Boost technology.According to Pocket-lint, the screen provides eight shortcuts to applications with six already accounted for. The other two would presumably left for the user to decide. Unfortunately, they did not get enough time to see if the second display allowed for additional customization or if it behaved differently when specific apps were running. Considering the six listed shortcuts found in the image, I would anticipate being able to hand pick all of them.In terms of hardware, not much else was disclosed. The digital camera lens on the back did not indicate its resolution and there appeared to be an abnormal amount of space between the two halves when the phone was closed. One possibility is that this particular display phone might be a prototype and not indicative of a production-ready model. The display was described as being unremarkable, leading me to believe this will be a wallet-friendly offering when it arrives. It's difficult to say with certainty which handset this is, however multiple outlets are leaning toward the Optimus Slider. Also whispered with the codename of Gelato, at least two carriers are expected to offer the phone this fall. Both Sprint and T-Mobile were recently found to have the LG product on their short term road maps. Without knowing the full details, I imagine this will be a priced on the low end of the spectrum, possibly hovering around $50 or less. Should that prove to be the case, LG could be sitting on another popular phone line.

0 Vote(s)

Lady Gaga&39's &39'Born This Way&39' surpassed 1 million in unit sales in its first week.(Credit:Screenshot by CNET)Lady Gaga's new album "Born This Way" sold more than 1.1 million digital and physical copies in its first week and set a new record for digital sales, thanks in part to a pricing scheme from Amazon.com.Testing the waters of digital music prices, the retail giant offered the pop singer's new album for a mere 99 cents for one day on Monday, May 23. Hoping to lure more than the usual Lady Gaga fans, Amazon threw in 20GB of cloud storage as part of the deal. After technical problems due to overwhelming demand on that day, Amazon tried once more last Thursday, offering the 99-cent MP3 version of the album for a single day.Boosted by Amazon's retail push, "Born This Way" hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 1,108,000 copies altogether and making it the 17th album to sell a million in a single week since 1991 when Nielsen's SoundScan started tracking such data, according to Billboard.Amazon itself accounted for more than 440,000 of the total 662,000 digital downloads of "Born This Way," according to Billboard.Though executives at Lady Gaga's record company, Universal Music Group, expected the album to hit the Billboard 200, they were eyeing unit sales of only around 400,000 copies. Instead the album sold between 650,000 and 700,000 on May 23, the first day of Amazon's pricing blitz, Billboard said. That number then shot up to more than a million following Amazon's second push on Thursday. The pricing plan was considered controversial by some, according to the Associated Press. Using the promotion as a way to drum up business for its cloud services, Amazon actually lost money on the deal as it still had to pay Universal Music Group the full wholesale price for each copy of the album. Physical music stores were also reportedly none too happy with the pricing advantage that Amazon was able to score.

0 Vote(s)
