Has Christine dumped him yet He looked like a freak. But, then again, there always Lucretia. Or Marianna. Or Jeffrey. Are they free yetIt's very hard to keep up with the relationship status of those whom you'd like to get to know better, as in a whole lot better. This is made even more difficult if you happen to have thousands of Facebook friends and at least 20 people of your target sex (or sexes) whose smell you would like to become familiar with.Developer Dan Loewenherz knows exactly how you feel. That's why he has created the Breakup Notifier App.What could be more simple What could be more useful What could be more excitingThis astounding, beautiful, utterly utilitarian piece of technology allows you to be instantly informed when someone you have loved/liked/been desperate to stalk for a very long time finally becomes available. This app is so blindingly brilliant that I want to alter my relationship with myself for not having thought of it. (Credit:Screenshot: Chris Matyszczyk/CNET)When it comes to love, timing is everything. The same holds for sex, too. So the Breakup Notifier's eagle eyes and instant digits could help you ensnare the love of your life. Or at least your week.Yes, it does feel a little like stalking. But in a good way. You don't want to miss your chance. Surely, all is fair in love and war. And, when it comes to love, it's always a war.According to the New York Daily News, Loewenhertz created the app after he eavesdropped on a chat between his fiancee and her mother. This is not always a wise thing to do. However, in this case, it was his fiancee's sister who needed a date, and, like fine members of the family, mother and sister wondered who might be available to fill that void. Loewenhertz asked, jokingly of course, whether she'd like to know when he might become available. And one of the world's great ideas was born.At the moment, the app is free. But it surely won't be for long. With love, you always have to pay."I just really hope people use it for good, not evil," he told the Daily News, insisting he had created the app mostly as a joke. "It's really a practical thing. If you're going to refresh someone's page 20 times a day, why not have an alert on it"Oh, David. Who are you trying to fool What have you commenced Surely this will be greatest mass stalking in the history of relationships. This will make the Million Man March seem like a rural hiking club taking a stroll in a meadow.Already, the Daily News reports, more than 100,000 people have signed up for this beautiful news bulletin. What are you waiting for This could be the one, or the two, or the seven you've been waiting for.

0 Vote(s)

Google has made what appears to be its first purchase of 2011, snapping up eBook Technologies for an undisclosed amount. Confirmation came through an updated Web page for the company, which has been stripped of much of its content but states "eBook Technologies, Inc. is excited to announce that we have been acquired by Google. Working together with Google will further our commitment to providing a first-class reading experience on emergingtablets, e-readers and other portable devices." Google confirmed the purchase to TechCrunch but no price has emerged.Cached versions of eBook Technologies' site available through (where else) Google show the company had a variety of hardware and software products dedicated to e-books, including two outdated e-readers. It also develops billing and e-book distribution technology for publishers. Cue the gBook speculation, but it seems more likely that Google would want to use eBook Technologies' back-end software and systems as part of the recently introduced Google eBookstore.

0 Vote(s)

Here&'s the latest action we&'re following on the GreenBeat today:GM to license battery technology from the U.S. &8211' GM has signed a licensing deal to use advanced battery technology from the government&'s Argonne National Laboratory in electric cars and hybrids. The technology would allow for longer-lasting charges at higher voltages and a longer battery life. The lab also announced it had licensed cathode technology to LG Chem, the maker of the battery cells in GM&'s partially electric hybrid Volt, for use in the Volt.First Solar Acquires RayTracker &8212' Top global solar panel producer First Solar announced it has acquired RayTracker, which makes tracking technology for solar panels. Terms were not disclosed. Staff from RayTracker will be folded into First Solar&'s engineering group.Landis + Gyr wins state contract in China &8212' Top meter company Landis + Gyr has an agreement with the State Grid Corporation of China to supply more than 10,000 smart meters in six provinces, Greentech Media reports. The utility covers 80 percent of China, so a successful rollout could lead to bigger opportunities in the country, which is one of the fastest-growing energy and cleantech markets in the world.Nissan teams with Sumitomo for membership-based charging stations &8212' The automaker behind the all-electric Nissan Leaf (pictured)has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Sumitomo and NEC Corporation to study developing charging facilities for electric cars that customers can opt into via a membership program in Japan. The stations will be installed at locations like apartment complexes and parking garages, Autoblog Green reports.Next Story: Record $7.8 billion year for cleantech venture capital in 2010, but with two quarters of decline Previous Story: The next solar hotspot is &8230' IndiaPrintEmailTwitterFacebookGoogle BuzzLinkedIn DiggStumbleUponRedditDeliciousGoogleMore&8230' Tags: batteries, electric cars, electric vehicles, Smart Grid, SolarCompanies: First Solar, NEC Corporation, Nissan, Ray Tracker, State Grid Corporation of China, SumotomoPeople: Landis + Gyr Tags: batteries, electric cars, electric vehicles, Smart Grid, SolarCompanies: First Solar, NEC Corporation, Nissan, Ray Tracker, State Grid Corporation of China, SumotomoPeople: Landis + GyrIris Kuo is the VentureBeat's lead GreenBeat writer.
Global agriculture and biotechnology giant Monsanto has taken an undisclosed equity stake in biofuels player Sapphire Energy. The two companies will also team up for a multi-year research collaboration.Sapphire is working on what it calls &''green crude&'' created from algae, which can be refined into gas, diesel and jet fuel. Monsanto, a top supplier of genetically modified seeds, is on the hunt for genes that can be applied to agriculture, especially those that increase crop yields. The two companies will use Sapphire&'s research tools and algae to discover genes that could be applied to agriculture, while Sapphire says the deal will help &''accelerate&'' the commercialization of algae as a renewable energy crop.Algae companies that originally set out to make biofuels haveincreasingly turned to other ways to leverage their technology. This is also true of biofuels startups in general. Yesterday, Solazyme &8212' which has a contract with the military to deliver algal biofuels &8211'launched a skincare line based on its microalgae research. And big-name partnerships abound in this field. Companies like Unilever, Procter &amp' Gamble and others have all forged partnerships and/or invested in biofuels startups whose technology could yield renewable ingredients or valuable research for their products. The Monsanto/Sapphire partnership will work to identify genes in algae that affect an organism&'s ability to supply strong yields even under non-ideal environmental conditions. The discoveries within algae could then be applied to corn, cotton, soybeans and other crops. Algae has a similar photosynthetic process to other plants, but is more efficient to work with, the companies say.[Image via Flickr/shaferlens]Next Story: Intergi launches Playwire to help anyone make money from video ads Previous Story: Nyoombl pivots from video chat to broadcastingPrintEmailTwitterFacebookGoogle BuzzLinkedIn DiggStumbleUponRedditDeliciousGoogleMore&8230' Tags: agriculture, algae, biofuels, cropsCompanies: Monsanto, Sapphire Energy Tags: agriculture, algae, biofuels, cropsCompanies: Monsanto, Sapphire EnergyIris Kuo is the VentureBeat's lead GreenBeat writer.
