It's been my personal experience that that nerds love their room in the basement, which tends to be kinda dark even during daytime, where they have fast Internet access and lots of gadgets. And I have to admit that it's nice down there here, where you I can do all kinds of fun things, such as playing games, programing, playing more games, or just quietly enjoying the sound of crunchy Cheetos while pondering over the prospect of some romantic date...without being bothered.
But it's not true anymore that you can only have fast Internet at home.
With the currently rather widespread implementation of 4G cellular data, the Internet has now become truly mobile. In many cases, such as the services offered by Verizon, mobile Internet is even much faster than that of many residential DSL plans. It does comes with some caveats, though. Verizon's Samsung 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot, for example, comes with a data cap of just 10GB, for those who are willing to pay $80/month that is, which can be used up within just an hour of heavy download.
That's why you might want to look at Sprint's MiFi 4082 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot that's slower but offers unlimited 4G access. Or T-Mobile's 4G Mobile Hotspot ZTE MF61 that, instead of charging you more when the cap is reached, throttles down the speed until the next billing cycle.
If you're not the sharing type, you can also opt for a 4G modem that brings the Internet to only one computer at a time. In this case you don't have to worry about the device's battery life, just that of your laptop.
