TechShop, a chain of membership-based workshops offering tools and equipment, has raised $1.7 million of an expected $4 million in equity, according to a filing with the SEC.

Based in Menlo Park, Calif., the company offers tools like 3D printers, laser cutters and woodworking tools to individual members for about $100 per month. TechShop currently has locations in Menlo Park and Raleigh, North Carolina, but the chain plans to expand to two dozen cities in the next two years, Bloomberg reports. Last December, TechShop announced plans to open a San Francisco workshop in a former San Francisco Chronicle building near 5th and Howard Streets.

Founded in 2006, the company expects to make $1.1 million in revenue this year.
