We&'re still awaiting official numbers on Verizon iPhone sales, but according to leaked sales data they didn&'t meet expectations, the mobile news site Boy Genius Report reveals.

BGR was given sales totals from five Apple stores (including &''two very, very prominent&'' stores) for the first five days of the Verizon iPhone&'s availability. While the Verizon iPhone started with a big lead on its February 10 launch day (909 sales versus AT&'T&'s 539), that slowly narrowed over the next few days to a slight lead (711 Verizon iPhone&'s sold on Monday Feb. 14, versus 618 AT&'T units).

Given all of the hype surrounding the Verizon iPhone (which, admittedly, we contributed to), many expected it to outsell its AT&'T counterpart to a greater degree. Still, this data is only from five stores &8212' the nationwide outlook could be significantly different (although the lack of long lines during the Verizon iPhone&'s launch was somewhat telling).

Here&'s the full sales data leaked to BGR (again, just from 5 Apple stores):

The site also reports that preorders for the Verizon iPhone, which sold out in less than 24 hours after being made available, accounted for about 550,000 units. Just two early morning hours of Verizon iPhone preordering ended up breaking the carrier&'s first day sales records.

BGR also had some updated statistics to report: 30 percent of Verizon iPhone buyers came from Android, 25 percent came from BlackBerry, and only 14 percent jumped from the AT&'T iPhone.
